Footnotes

Provenance
The collection of the late Mrs Maureen Hanton.

An inscription previously affixed to the reverse of the sheet, now lost, was seemingly written by Charles O'Brien (Governor of Barbados 1918-1925) and read as follows:

'Occupied by my Grandfather the Lieut. Col. Terence O'Brien 87th R.I. Fusiliers (afterwards Major General) in 1853... My Uncle Edmund with pony and Uncle Dick with donkey in foreground. This house is now occupied by the Masters of Harrison College, Barbados... This picture I used to gaze on with great interest when I was a very small child and could not realise I would be Governor of Barbados from 1918-25...'
