Footnotes

Provenance
The collection of the late Mrs Maureen Hanton.

This work is believed to have been completed c.1888 due to the particular layout of Castries in this period.
Morne Fortune, the hill from which this watercolour was executed, is home to Fort Charlotte. Originally built by the French in 1784 and named Citadelle du Morne Fortuné, this important military stronghold would change hands between the British and French on numerous occasions until 1803 when it would stay under control of the British until 1979.
