Footnotes

Following in a military tradition, Sir John Leslie, 2nd Baronet, was commissioned into the Grenadier Guards c.1880, with whom he served as a lieutenant. Most notably in Egypt, fighting at the Battle of Tel el Kebir in 1882. It is during this time in Egypt that it is likely that the sketches offered here were completed.
