A 19th century ruby and diamond necklace and ring
The necklace composed of 16 detachable clusters, each set with a cushion-shaped ruby within a border of old brilliant-cut diamonds, connected by single old brilliant-cut diamond spacers, accompanied by a matching ruby and diamond cluster ring, mounted in yellow gold, rubies approximately 24.00 carats total, diamonds approximately 33.10 carats total, largest approximately 1.50 carats, necklace length 33.7cm, ring with later shank, ring size K½ (2)

Louis Winans was a descendent of the American family of engineers behind Russia's first commercial railway from St Petersburg to Moscow. Winans settled in the UK where he formed a collection of spectacular gemstones, including the historic 31.40 carat pink diamond known as the Agra.
