A gem-set and diamond peacock brooch, Gustave Baugrand, circa 1865
the body pavé-set with sapphires and diamonds, extending articulated cushion and rose-cut diamond plumes, enhanced by vari-cut emeralds and rubies, perched on a cultured pearl, measuring approximately 8.50mm.; signed Baugrand for Gustave Baugrand; mounted in eighteen karat gold and platinum; length: 2 1/8in. (pearl not tested for origin, brooch fitting is detachable)
