A Congressional report detailing an attack against Steinbeck's grandfather and other relatives in Palestine. Steinbeck's grandfather and others had gone to Palestine in the mid-19th century to train the Jews in farming and hasten the coming of the Messiah. Their settlement was wiped out in an attacked that killed Steinbeck's great-uncle and saw a great-aunt and cousin raped.
