4to (250 x 197 mm). [10], 177, [35], 44, 16, [2] pp. 12 full-page copper-plate engravings. Period full speckled calf, spine gilt, author's name and publication date neatly penned by a period hand on the upper cover. Some even toning, but generally internally clean, a few stray marks to covers, spine flaking, an excellent copy overall.
FIRST EDITION. A detailed classification of shells and shell fossils, drawing on the work of other scientists and collectors, especially the work of George Rumpf and Filippo Buonanni (with reference to the illustrations in their respected works). Klein also included a section in which he throws light on the formation and coloring of shells followed by a commentary in Pliny's writings about shells. BM Nat.
